Sonam Kapoor was nominated in 2008 for the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for the movie Saawariya.
In 2009, Sonam Kapoor appeared in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Delhi-6 opposite Abhishek Bachchan. The film received mixed reviews by the critics, but her performance was highly praised. Critic Rajeev Masand commented, "Sonam Kapoor is the revelation in Delhi 6. She's a firecracker performer, instinctive and uninhibited in what isn't even a conventional female lead".

Director Nikhil Advani announced in late January 2009 that he is to work with Vidya. Chand Bhai will be the title of this film and Akshay Kumar will co-star. The film is based on juveline delinquency. Balan is also set to star in UTV Spotboy's No One Killed Jessica alongside Rani Mukerji.

In 2006, Basu claimed to have been harassed by certain organizers of the India Day Parade in Edison, New Jersey. Basu was initially scheduled to lead the parade on 13 August 2006. Basu eventually appeared on stage late, according to her, because of the harassment. She said, "I wanted to attend the parade, but I could not." She explained that she was harassed physically and mentally in the car by two people who were taking her to the parade.
